Ex- Cincinnati Bengals and Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Ranch Incident
Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is receiving treatment after sustaining severe burns in an incident on his property near Burnet, Texas.
The Tragic Event
According to a family statement, Shipley was using a machine when it ignited. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was after he sustained severe burns over a significant portion of his body. He reached a ranch employee, who drove him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and the prevention of infections and complications on his journey back to health,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.
Extent of Injuries
Reports indicate that Shipley suffered full-thickness burns to more than 20% of his body. Family members have stated that the main danger at this stage is the threat of infection and pneumonia.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Football Journey
Shipley received Associated Press All-America honors while at Texas in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he recorded 248 receptions for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 scores. He also ran track for the university.
Selected in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over his professional career. He officially retired in 2014.
