The sibling of the perpetrator revealed his parents "could not manage" of their offspring and he worried his brother would murder a individual of their family, a public inquiry has learned.

The individual, then 17, killed three kids at a pop music-inspired lesson on July 29, 2024.

The Southport Inquiry, conducted at the venue, heard the family member Dion Rudakubana warned a friend there was a risk of his sibling "taking action deadly."

The hearing was advised the brother wrote to his associate over the Discord messaging app: "The fights are terrifying because of the risk of someone dying."

He stated his relative reminded him of the violent character in the film the thriller.

Rising Hostility

Proceedings was told Dion was diagnosed with a medical condition at the twelve years old which resulted in him needing mobility assistance and his mother and father helping him more.

Questioned by Richard Boyle, legal representative, if that changed his relationship he said: "There was tension that came about."

Dion acknowledged his brother seemed to dislike this change.

He testified the investigation that after the household left their previous home to their new location his sibling's temperament worsened and he would have "violent outbursts."

The inquiry learned Dion became "increasingly wary" of his brother, who would physically assault him frequently.

He testified: "I had to be cautious if I did speak to him because each conflict could turn into an confrontation."

'Serious fears'

Dion testified his relative became significantly more violent after he was expelled from his school in that region, in that period.

Dion left for university in the following period and the two spoke less and less "due to unfamiliarity with having me around."

The inquiry was made aware of a communication he messaged a friend on the platform in which he mentioned his brother was annoyed by him talking during nighttime because of the limited soundproofing in their residence.

He additionally informed his friend there was a possibility of "him doing something deadly."

He said: "The fights are frightening because of the threat of a fatality."

The counsel questioned: "You had serious fears that your sibling would kill a person of your relatives?"

He answered: "In case matters intensified to that point."

The lawyer questioned how his parents responded to the attacker's violent behaviour.

"There was no point to seek to penalize him," he stated. "Moreover, there was a serious threat in proceeding that way.

When Mr Boyle asked if his mother and father had failed to manage of his relative, he acknowledged.
